Masada Herod’s Palace

by Mackenzie Landi

High on the northern cliff of the ancient Jewish fortress of Masada, King Herod’s three-tier private residential palace was once an oasis of luxury in the middle of the desert. Even in times of danger, the king’s lifestyle of royal decadence would not have suffered. The structure has been remarkably well-preserved, and today visitors can see remnants of the colorful frescoes and mosaic tiled floors that decorated the palace.
