A pioneer in Israeli archeology, Mazar was best known for his excavations at the most significant site in Israel: The Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Between 1951 and 1977, he served as Professor of Biblical History and Archaeology at the Hebrew University. Many of Mazar’s students are leading historians and archaeologists in Israel today.
