Church of the Transfiguration

Church of the Transfiguration

Consecrated in June 1924, the Church of the Transfiguration is located on Mount Tabor, the traditional site where the Transfiguration of Jesus took place. The current church, part of a Franciscan monastery complex, was built on the ruins of an ancient Byzantine church and a 12th century Crusader era church. The church contains three grottos belonging to the Crusader church, and there are two towers holding chapels dedicated to Elijah and Moses, the two prophets who appeared with Jesus during His transfiguration.
