Qumran Scroll Cave

by Mackenzie Landi

One of the most significant historical discoveries in Jewish and Christian history was made by a humble shepherd boy in 1947. After stumbling across the clay jars stuffed with old scrolls in a cave near the Dead Sea, the boy sold them to antiquities dealers. A Hebrew University professor later identified them as the oldest Hebrew manuscripts in existence, predating all other biblical texts by a thousand years. From this drab cave, proof that the Bible had been accurately preserved sent shock waves through the archaeological world.
